Press Release

Offramp Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition, Lou Beach: Stories & Pictures from June 24 - August 5, 2012. The exhibition consists of new and recent collages by the artist. Signed copies of Beach's print, Chef (see below), a commission for the New York Times Review of Books, will also be available for purchase. There will be an opening reception for the artist on Sunday, June 24 from 2-5pm.  and a closing reception, book signing and reading from Beach's recently published 420 Characters on Sunday, August 5 from 2-5pm. The reading will begin at 3pm. The Blog Store and Cafe will be open for all events.

Award winning illustrator, artist and now celebrated author, Lou Beach's multi-faceted talent and career seems to know no bounds. The largely self-taught Beach's genius for creating memorable images has landed him commissions for The New York TimesThe Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone and many other notable publications. His long list of 12" x 12" album cover art includes releases by Weather Report, The Carpenters, Weird Al Yankovic, and the Neville Brothers, just to name a few.

Beach entered a new phase in his career last year with the publication of 420 Characters, a book of very short stories which began their lives as Facebook status updates. Beach will read from 420 Characters at 3pm during the closing reception on Sunday, August 5. Copies of the book will be available for purchase or bring your own copy for Beach to sign.

Beach was born in Germany to Polish parents in 1947. His name is actually the phonetic pronunciation of his real last name, Lubicz. He lives and works in Los Angeles.

The exhibition coincides with the showing of Jay Willis's welded steel sculpture, Ring of Fire, in the garden.
