Offramp Gallery is pleased Offramp Gallery is pleased to present Elaine Carhartt: Portraits, a solo exhibition of reductive lino prints from November 18 - December 23, 2012. There will be an opening reception for the artist on Sunday, November 18 from 2-5pm. There will be a closing reception and holiday party on Sunday, December 23 from 2-5pm.

Carhartt describes the process she uses to make the prints: The relief printing technique I used to develop the layers of color is called a reductive method. Using a single block, I print the first color before any background is cut away. Cuts are then made in the block and the second color is inked and printed. This is repeated until all the colors are printed. Because there is no way of going back and adjusting the edition it is a discipline that involves a reverse way of thinking that I find challenging. Because the colors are layered they form new colors by virtue of the order they are printed. With one image one can create endless variations and combinations. Picasso was a master at these reductive prints and a great source of inspiration.

Elaine Carhartt: Portraits, will run concurrently with Patssi Valdez: Momentos and James Griffith: Natural Selection.
