September 2008

Summer seems to have flown by here at Offramp, the first signs of autumn catching us a little off guard -- apples are starting to fall from the trees, persimmons are turning pale yellow, and we open in less than TWO WEEKS! As always, I welcome your feedback. You can contact me by clicking on the "Reply to the sender" button above or by e-mailing me directly at jane@offrampgallery.com.

Anita Bunn: Blind Spot Opens September 14
|
|
|
Artist Anita Bunn in her studio
|
Offramp Gallery is pleased to present its inaugural exhibition, Anita Bunn’s Blind Spot, the latest in an ongoing series of photographs. The exhibition opens on Sunday, September 14, 2008 and runs through November 16, 2008.
In Blind Spot, the artist takes a seemingly simple construct of tree tops and sky, presented in a square format, and repeats it to great effect. There is at first a sense of beautiful calm in these eight photos. Variations on the theme -- blue sky becomes grey sky becomes ominous clouds -- give way to an underlying sense of mystery and intensity.
The works in Blind Spot were shot with a Nikon D200 digital camera in raw format. Anita makes a digital file of each shot and prints them with either an Epson 9800 or 7800 depending on the size of the print. Both printers use Ultrachrome ink, producing prints that are stable and archival. The prints are then mounted on maple panels with an acid-free surface and laminated to further protect them. Each print is available in an edition of five.
We hope to see you at the opening reception for Anita on Sunday, September 14, from 2-5pm.

Notes

Thanks to everyone who responded to our first monthly newsletter! I heard from LA artist, Jacquie Dreager, who was excited to share fig recipes with me -- she promises me a taste of her fig preserves soon. Many thanks to LA Municipal Art Gallery Curator, Scott Canty, and Head Preparator, Michael Miller, for their support and lighting advice.
Offramp Gallery is actively seeking submissions of artists' work. Thanks to all of you who have already submitted work to me. I promise I will get back to you soon, after the gallery opens and I have time for a thoughtful response. Click here for submission guidelines
