Offramp Gallery is pleased to announce two installations by Erika Suderburg, Some Small Groups 1974-2009 and Landscape for il Sassetta, from January 10 - February 7, 2010, with an opening reception on Sunday, January 10, from 2-5pm.

Some Small Groups 1974-2009 consists of an infinite number of 1" square photographic prints culled from 35 years of personally captured archived photographs. They are grouped in various categories that mutate according to whim, time of day, wind speed, solstice orientation and flights of fancy.

Some Small Groups was initially launched in 2000. It is a modular piece designed for perpetual rearrangement in an intimate domestic space. Each image is on the verge of not quite being able to be completely discerned. There are currently 250 images of which the categories: Bush, Wheel, Human, Light, Fin, Path, Animal, Rain, Sky, Tree, Water, Nipple, Horizon & Topiary have been selected for inclusion in this first ever public viewing of these formally secret archives.

Landscape for il Sassetta is a site specific video installation that makes use of a disused fireplace in the library. Suderberg describes Landscape for il Sassetta as "a contemporary approach to the contemplative disciplines, a fascination with fire and flying monks converge in an examination of place, habit and aspiration."

Offramp Gallery is pleased to announce Stare, a new video installation by Joey Santarromana, from January 10 - February 7, 2010, with an opening reception on Sunday, January 10, from 2-5pm.

Stare
is an exercise into the committed gaze and color (active and passive viewing); one will replace the other based on the individual's efforts of looking at the work. Stare
consists of two video portraits projected adjacent to each other, both saturated in color, making the image a challenge to see. In addition, the viewer is also being washed in the colored light of the projection as he/she stands between the two portraits -- in effect becoming enmeshed in the exchange.

Notes (& Gossip)

Among the many who turned out to see Aron Goldberg: A Life in Self Portraits were Aron's fellow Ceeje Gallery alums, Max Hendler and Chas Garabedian. Old friend, artist, and Pasadena City College Art Gallery director, Brian Tucker, also dropped by to see the show. The current exhibition at PCC, Mantong and Protong: Richard Sharpe Shaver and Staniislav Szukalski, looks very interesting. Be sure and check it out before it closes on November 14.

Congratulations to Joyce Dallal who has just returned from Skein, Norway where she participated in the exhibition and festival “PaperCity” held in an abandoned paper factory. Joyce is one of the 12 artists included in our upcoming exhibition, Small Works.
